The
coat of arms of Gardelegen shows half of a brandenburgish
eagle on the one side and on the other side it shows three
plants of hop. The oldest known seals of the 14th century
already show this order, although there are different
numbers of plants of hop. |

Gardelegen
is situated on a high plane in the valley of the Milde in
the northwest of the state Saxony-Anhalt in an altitude of
30 to 100 meters. Situated at the confluence of the Milde
and the Laugebach, the city of the Altmark, Gardelegen, is
embedded between a hilly end moraine countryside and river
valleys in the north and an extensive, nice countryside
called “Heide” in the south. |

The
Federal road 71 from the direction of Magdeburg or Uelzen
and also the Federal road 188 from the direction of
Stendal or Wolfsburg take you to Gardelegen. The next
connection to the freeway is about 50 kilometers away near
Magdeburg (Ebendorf) or Wolfsburg. At the railroad station
of Gardelegen, trains run for example in the direction of
Berlin, Hannover or Stendal. Bus connections are existant
to all communities als also to Magdeburg and Salzwedel.
The next airport is to be found in Hanover (Langenhagen). |
